Important Information
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a 2-way-process between the client and counsellor – a collaboration which is focused on enabling and empowering the client to make changes in their lives to improve, manage stressful situations or develop coping strategies.
There is no set limit to how many sessions you need, however, if you are having counselling through an employee assistance programme or private insurance plan, you may be limited to the number of sessions you can have. Your counsellor will inform you of this on the first session.
Sessions
Each session lasts up to 60 minutes. If you need to rearrange or cancel an appointment, please give as much notice as possible. A text reminder can be sent to you the day before if you require this. Please let your counsellor know.
Insurance
Asha Counselling Services is fully insured, and DBS checked. Ask to provide more details.
Mobile phones
Please could you switch these off or put on silent for the session as it can be very disruptive if they go off during the session. If you are expecting an important call, please let your counsellor know at the start of the session.
Confidentiality
All client information is confidential. However, there are some exceptions:
The counsellor considers there is s a risk of harm to the client or to others.
The client discloses they have committed a serious crime.
The client discloses something that by law, they must share with the appropriate authorities such as acts of terrorism or abuse of a vulnerable person.
Supervision
As part of the ethical and professional practice, the counsellor must attend supervision regularly to provide support to themselves, and ensure best and ethical practice for the client. These sessions are with another counsellor and are bound by confidentiality themselves. All casework is anonymised to protect client’s confidentiality.
Payment
Payment can either be cash on the day or bank transfer prior to the appointment. The employee assistance programmes, and insurance companies have their own arrangements. Please ask the counsellor for more details or if you are unsure.
Online or telephone counselling.
Sessions will be arranged between the client and counsellor for a specific time. The client will need a quiet space alone, and good internet connection. Online service will be via zoom which is a free connection service.
